Healthy Athletes provides health screenings free of charge at Special Olympics competitions. Offered in a welcoming, fun environment, these screenings educate athletes on healthy lifestyle choices and identify problems that may need additional follow-up.
Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics, along with Shanghai Sunray, will supply and manage the operation of the hardware and software systems for Special Olympics. The systems provide RFID technology embedded into an athlete credential for secure and efficient Healthy Athletes health screenings, medical incident data entry, contact-less athlete gate access, Games information kiosk access, and other information management purposes at the Games.

‘Fudan Microelectronics has already proven itself to be a leading Chinese RFID solution provider,’ said Mr. Lei Shi, CEO, Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics Co., LTD. ‘This sponsorship is a major milestone for Fudan Microelectronics to going global.’

‘Fudan Microelectronics recognizes the value of the goodwill associated with the Special Olympics names and trademarks and of the benefits that athletes, families, coaches, and volunteers derive from participating in Special Olympics,’ Mr. Shi continues. ‘The partnership with Special Olympics will allow Fudan Microelectronics to develop brand name and advanced RFID applications for the global healthcare market.’

Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics, Shanghai Sunray, and Health One Global demonstrated the Special Olympics RFID and information management systems during the 2008 Special Olympics Fall Festival at Villanova University, Pennsylvania. ‘Special Olympics International officials, Healthy Athletes physicians, athletes, and families were all impressed by this cutting edge technology,’ said Aldis Berzins, director of IT Initiatives and Applications, Special Olympics International. ‘I truly believe the new health screening information management system will help improve the efficiency and accuracy of data collections. The accurate electronics health records will be invaluable to many research projects for disease prevention.’

Under the agreement, Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics will send its supporting team to key Special Olympics Games, including the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho, the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games in Lincoln, Nebraska, the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, Greece, and the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
